Thai Desserts You Must Try Now

Selina’s Thai is a Thai food hotspot in Sarnia, Canada. It is home to many authentic tropical dishes that are sought after by many locals who cannot visit Thailand at the moment. Among its favourite dishes are some of the most unique desserts to grace your table. Whether you find yourself in Selina’s Thai in Murphy Road or at another Thai food hotspot, you should always look forward to these treats!

Coconut Creme Caramel

It is best to start with the familiar. It looks like a normal dairy pudding but it is not. The coconut creme caramel is made with coconut milk so people with lactose intolerance could enjoy it. For most people, it is considered appealing mainly for its health benefits as a non-dairy, low-fat treat. However, it has a mild flavour and soft texture and it would be a shame if it is skipped by people who assume ‘gluten-free food always tastes bland’.

Thai Mango Pudding

Speaking of flavour, mango is one of Thailand’s famous fruits because it is naturally sweet and sour. These strong flavours are perfect for making desserts without needing artificial sweeteners. The mango pudding is an easy-to-make dessert that can be prepared in 15 minutes because it doesn’t need too much effort to become a tasty treat! You can enjoy a cup of mango pudding at any time!

Fried Bananas

Fried bananas are treated as both snacks and dessert in Thailand. They are easy to make and even easier to eat. They are peddled in the streets of Bangkok in different varieties. Some are covered in sweet, crystalized caramel while others are simply fried in olive oil. The latter kind of fried bananas is often eaten with ice cream or shredded coconut.

Grilled Pineapple

This is the most straightforward dish in this article. Take a slice of pineapple and put it on a grill in high heat. Let it cook until there are sear lines on its sides. Pineapples are already tasty on their own even without the grill. However, cooking greatly enhances its sweetness as the heat stimulates its water content!

Grilled pineapple can be enjoyed as a snack but they are best enjoyed as finishers to a meal of grilled meat. Its natural sweetness makes it counter the saltiness or savoury flavour of the meat.

Thai Jello

Unlike Western jelly, Thai jello is not firm enough to stand on a plate while keeping the shape of its mould. They are also colourful but they are often opaque instead of translucent. It is usually served as sliced or diced in a bowl dressed in cream or coconut shreds.

Jellies are usually branded as for children only but Thai adults love this dessert. It is never missing in any social gathering. Despite their popularity in social settings, they are not often served in Thai restaurants like Selina’s Thai because of how difficult it is to keep them fresh. The others are present, though, so be sure to check the menu!
