Thai Satay

Thai Satay is one of the most popular dishes here in Thailand. It offers a traditional taste of the succulent grilled meat dish and is an excellent choice for a barbecue. Usually, strips of chicken or beef are marinated in a special Thai paste, then skewered, grilled or broiled. Afterwards, it is then served with homemade peanut sauce for a finishing touch.


For the marinade

  • 1/4 cup minced lemongrass (it must be fresh or frozen)
  • 2 shallots (or 1/4 onion, sliced)
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 to 2 fresh red chiles (it must be sliced)
  • 1 thumb-size piece galangal (it must be thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 3 tablespoons dark soy sauce 
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Larb Gai Thai Chicken Salad

Another popular Thai dish you can try making at home is the Larb Gai Thai Chicken Salad. This is a classic dish that is made with pork or chicken with fresh mint for extra flavour. You can enjoy this meal by pairing it with cold greens or rice.


For the salad

  • 4 to 5 cups fresh arugula
  • 10 to 15 mint leaves (it must be chopped finely)
  • 3 green onions (sliced)
  • A handful of fresh basil
  • 1 small red bell pepper (diced)
  • 1/2 cucumber (sliced or diced)
  • 4 tablespoons uncooked sticky rice
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 shallot (or 1/4 cup chopped onion)
  • 1/2 pound chicken breast (it must be chopped up into small pieces, or ground chicken, pork, or turkey)
  • Optional: 4 makrut lime leaves (it must be cut into thin slivers with scissors)
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce (for frying chicken)
  • Water (as needed)

Thai green curry

One of the most popular Thai dishes that we recommend trying out is the Thai Green Curry. This offers you a wide array of delectable flavours that will surely be loved by children and adults alike. 

Basically, chunks of tender chicken are simmered in a green curry sauce along with your choice of vegetables when making this recipe.

For the Green Curry Paste:

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 stalk lemongrass, minced
  • 1 thumb-size piece ginger, grated
  • 3 to 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup of fresh cilantro leaves and stems (it must be coarsely chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1/4 cup diced shallot, or purple onion
  • 1/2 to 1 green chilli, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon shrimp paste
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 can coconut milk
